Inner Vision is open seven days a week, and they’ll take walk in appointments on Saturdays and Sundays, in keeping with the ‘tradition’ of the good old days! They’re not green by a long distance, open since 1995: known as one of the solid places in Australia to go and get ink done. There is now also a second shop that has opened up in Darlinghurst, appropriately named Inner Vision Tattoo 2!

Inner Vision make use of a bold tag line: their website will tell you that they’re “Simply Sydney’s best street & custom tattoo studio.”

They’ve also got special talent for Maori, Tribal and Japanese styles, but regularly have guest artists besides their five key staff tattooists (and one piercist!) - so there is always something unique on offer. If you’re looking for guidance, though, Inner Vision also keep in stock complete portfolios for all their artists and an entire reference library of flash designs for inspiration.

Tattoo.TV caught up with two of the regular staff members, Rhys and Kian, at one of the many conventions last year, in order to talk about the importance of immersing yourself in the culture of your chosen style: these are not tattooists who have any patience for ‘misuse’ or uneducated, rash appropriation of the art of a people or place, they’re all about appreciating the history, symbolism and meaning of their chosen craft.

Their studio is a gem, uniquely located in a double storey Victorian terrace that has been fitted out to accommodate the work of several tattooists and their resident piercist. They pride themselves upon their hygiene and cleanliness standards that go above and beyond the requirements by law in Australia – a good place to go for a nervous first timer as much as it is a destination for an experienced tattoo enthusiast.
