“Science fiction in the news” is the tagline that has become entangled with this story; a tale of technology, paranoia and progression that has overtones of 1984, of tracking, CCTV and eye-scanners.

Seriously though, before we get too hysterical and come over all tin-foil-hat: welcome one and all to the concept or RFID tattooing, or “Radio Frequency Identification.”  It’s been tested on cattle and rats so far, and it renders them trackable by compatible reader devices from feet away. No more lost or anonymous cows for the time being, anyway, but we do wonder how it might be effective on people!
